Offering store credit is a great way to retain your customers because you are providing customers with the opportunity to make future purchases, thereby increasing the likelihood of repeat sales.

When a customer opted for a store credit, the amount is automatically added to their account in Shopify, making their next purchase even easier.


Setting up Shopify new customer account

Prerequisites

To enable Shopify store credit as a return method, there are a few steps you'll need:

  1. Grant PostCo permission to start utilising Shopify's new customer account

  2. Switch your customer account in Shopify from Classic to New and enable store credit settings to allow customers to see and spend when they are logged in

    Note: Only store owner has access to grant the permission.

After completing the steps above, you can proceed to enable Shopify store credit option in your PostCo dashboard. Besides that, you can set a validity period for the issued store credit.

The customer experience in the returns portal remains the same. Customers will be prompted to select their preferred return method (exchanges, store credit, or refund) depending on what you've setup.


Once the return request is submitted and resolved, the store credit will be credited into the customer's account.

An email notification will be sent out to the customer, providing them step-by-step instructions on how to use the store credit in their next purchase with you.

When a customer is purchasing an item from your website, customers who are logged in to their account can select store credit as a payment method.

  1. Can I edit the store credit email notification?

    Absolutely! Once you enabled Shopify store credit, you can preview the email notification by going to the Notifications tab in your PostCo dashboard. Just click on the edit button to start customising the copy.

  2. I have Shopify store credit enabled. Should I still offer store credit via gift card or discount code?

    Shopify store credit lets you set a validity period for gift cards, and all credits can be accumulated in your customers' accounts. It makes it very easy for customers to use it as a payment method at the checkout page. In contrast, gift cards and discount codes, it does not not allow for stacking.

    Therefore, using Shopify store credit can provide a more flexible and customer-friendly experience.
